Benefits of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine Therapy

Stress Management and Anxiety

Stress and anxiety are two of the most common mental health issues worldwide. They can be incredibly damaging to your physical and emotional health. Chinese medicine offers a range of treatments that work by stimulating specific nerves that control pain, mood, and energy. The treatments can also help increase your energy level so you feel more alert, focused and motivated to tackle daily tasks.

Some conditions under this category are fatigue, anxiety and depression, and headache.

We recommend coming in for a series of treatments at least once per month to get started on your journey to managing stress. This way, you’ll have enough time to see how your body reacts to the treatments and make adjustments if necessary.

Muscle and Joint Pains

Some conditions under this category are Arthritis, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Plantar Fasciitis, Neuropathic Pain, Footdrop, Neck, shoulder, upper and lower back pain & injury, Sciatica and Knee pain & injury.

Our holistic treatments are designed to address the root cause of your pain, which means you’ll experience long-lasting relief without the side effects and risks associated with drugs.

Digestive Issues

Acupuncture has been shown in numerous studies and clinical trials to be effective in treating digestive disorders. The key lies in the fact that it works on multiple levels: not only does it help to treat symptoms like nausea or bloating, but it also addresses the underlying cause of your digestive problems by rebalancing your body’s energy systems, which could be contributing to your symptoms.

Acupuncture may relieve discomfort from some common symptoms of digestive disorders by harmonising the movement of qi (or life force) and body fluid.

Some symptoms or conditions related to digestive issues are irritable bowels, bloating, poor digestion, poor appetite, acid reflux and constipation.

Our experienced acupuncturists are trained in treating digestive disorders—we’ll work with you to find out what’s going on with your body and what kind of treatment will work best for you.

Menopausal & Aging Male Syndrome

Menopausal & Aging Male Syndrome (MAMS) is a common medical condition affecting many men and women in middle age. MAMS can be treated with acupuncture and Chinese medicine, which can help your body regulate hormones and reduce stress levels to ease pain and discomfort.

While women are often more vocal about the symptoms of menopause, it’s important to remember that men experience these symptoms, too. The main symptoms are loss of libido and erection, hot flashes, dizziness, insomnia, night sweats, fatigue, and memory loss.

By rebalancing your energy flow, acupuncture and other natural therapies can help to alleviate many of these symptoms associated with aging. As a result, we can help you feel better, youthful, reduce stress, and improve vitality and overall health. You will feel rejuvenated physically, mentally and emotionally!

Immune Support

Some people are generally susceptible to infection, while others aren’t. Aging and stress can reduce the body’s ability to defend itself against infection. One of the most common conditions treated with acupuncture is immune support. Because it works on a deep level, acupuncture can strengthen your immune system by helping it work more efficiently and effectively. It also helps speed up illness recovery by boosting the body’s natural healing processes.

Studies have also shown that Acupuncture and Chinese medicine therapies could support our immune system by increasing white blood cell production and improving lymph circulation. And a study by Harvard University found that acupuncture could reduce inflammation by stimulating the vagal-adrenal axis — a signalling pathway — to trigger the glands to release dopamine, which helps reduce inflammation.

Some conditions and symptoms under this category are allergies, arthritis, asthma, chronic fatigue syndrome, gastrointestinal disorders, high blood pressure and many other conditions.

Postnatal Treatment & Women’s Health

The benefits of acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine are diverse and beneficial for women going through postnatal treatment and women’s health issues.

During pregnancy and post-pregnancy, the body undergoes a lot of physical and emotional transformation. A mother’s body has undergone a big transition, and it will take some time to adjust. As a result, mothers may face a lack of sleep and exhaustion. They may also be faced with discomfort, aches and pain in the neck, shoulder and back from improper breastfeeding position.

Acupuncture and Chinese medicine can help with postnatal recovery. Women may feel tired due to lack of sleep, frequent waking to nurse infant at night and deficient in blood and body fluid. Therefore, it is critical to support the body during postnatal period with acupuncture and massage.
It can prevent complications such as swelling, constipation, and mood swings. It can also help improve the overall health of new mothers by increasing circulation and energy levels, improving sleep quality, reducing stress levels, boosting immunity against colds or infections, and relieving tension headaches or migraines. A relaxing postnatal massage can remove muscle aches and tightness, while acupuncture can help improve blood and qi flow.

Aside from postnatal issues, we believe women should be supported for menstrual health. Acupuncture helps to regulate hormonal imbalance, as stated in a literature review by Ko et al. (2018). In one of the studies from the review, he cited that acupuncture increases estrogen, especially estradiol, progesterone, prolactin, and other hormones.

If you are experiencing cramps and abdominal pain during your period, irregular cycles, heavy bleeding, and other menstrual disorder, please give us a call or book an appointment with us.

Relieve Stress and Ease Pain With Amber & Flow

Our Story

Amber & Flow was founded by Dr. Adalyn Hewwing and Dr. Noraini Zakaria, two hard-working mothers. They met while studying for their TCM qualification at Endeavour College of Natural Health, Brisbane.

They both wanted to share their passion and knowledge of holistic health with their local communities. So when they graduated, they started Amber & Flow together.

Our Mission & Vision

We have identified an access gap in Brisbane’s current Traditional Chinese Medicine offering. Amber & Flow’s mission is to fill in those gaps and provide effective and personalised holistic services.

Our vision is to build a community where people can learn about the amazing benefits of TCM together with other like-minded people who want to live healthier lives.
